Vision + Values

A woman and a man are having a conversation at a baptism ceremony, with a sign that reads 'BAPTISM' in the background.

Our vision is to know and love God deeply, share the hope of Jesus, and live a life that brings Him glory.

These core values are what drives all that we desire to be + do at MCC.

  • The Bible is our ultimate authority for all matters of life and faith. Everything we say or do should be rooted in what we believe to be the fully inspired and inerrant word of God. This is the primary means by which we are saved, know and love God more deeply, are made more like our Lord Jesus Christ, and are empowered to live a life that brings Him glory. Therefore, we practice expository preaching and the encouragement of a regular practice of reading, understanding, and applying the Bible to one’s life. We always strive to point others back to the Bible as the solution to all of life’s cares.

    Psalm 1:2-3; Matthew 4:4, 7:24; John 1:1-3, 15:4; Romans10:17; Ephesians 2:20; Colossians 2:7; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12

  • Apart from Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can accomplish nothing. If we are acting out of our own volition and trying to accomplish the mission of God in our own strength, our results will be, at best, a mere human substitute for that which God desires to build and, at worst, totally un-glorifying to Him. Therefore, we recognize our need for Christ and seek to remain close to Him through a regular practice of bible reading, prayer, and worship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Through our dependence on Him, He will be faithful to build the church.

    Psalm 145:18; John 14:13-17, 14:26, 15:5; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9-10, 8:26-27; Ephesians 3:20-21; James 1:5; 1 John 5:14

  • God has called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light. We recognize that our hope in Christ is only because of His grace and love for us. To live a life that communicates that we have it all together, or that in some way we merited God’s grace, only serves to diminish the greatness of God and reflects to the world an ingenuine faith. Therefore, we must allow the word of God and the work of the Holy Spirit to convict us of our sin. We must flee from that sin and strive for holiness in every area of life, in order that we might show the world that Christ’s power does truly change us. We must communicate that it is only because of Christ and His redeeming work in our lives that there is any good in us at all. This enables us to show the world that we desire good and do good because He is good. In doing so, we can encourage others to walk in fellowship with us as broken cisterns on a journey to be molded evermore into the likeness of Christ.

    Psalm 119:9; Matthew 23:1-33; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 9:19-23; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 2:6, 3:1-17, 4:5-6; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-7; 1 Peter 2:9

  • Being in community with other believers is vitally important to the task of the mission of God. Only through these close relationships can we foster a culture of humility and unity as the body of Christ. Therefore, we are intentional in our efforts to build each other up as we grow and walk together in our relationship with Christ. This is done as we fellowship together, serve one another, carry one another’s burdens, pray for each other, and spur one another on in the faith. This should be normal since the body of Christ is the closest family we will know on this earth, and we should desire to be in close relationship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. It is through this family and close fellowship with one another that those far from God will be able to witness the power of the gospel in our lives.

    John 13:34; Romans 12:5; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27; Galations 6:10; Ephesians 2:19-22, 4:1-6; Philippians 2:1-4; Colossians 3:9-17; 1 Thessalonians 4:9; 1 John 4:11

  • Faith that does not produce the fruit of the Spirit is not a living faith. True belief always produces an outward and visible expression of that belief. Therefore, we are actively involved in serving our neighbors, communities, cities, and world for their good and God’s glory. We do this by remaining Christ-centered and others-oriented through servant intentionality, supernatural hospitality, and gospel empowerment. We must remember that we are called to help people with both their physical needs and their spiritual needs. We must be prepared and willing to meet their needs of body, mind, and soul. Above all, the meeting of the spiritual needs of those we are serving is of the greatest urgency, and we must make the most of the time we have been given.

    Psalm 145:18; John 14:13-17, 14:26, 15:5; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9-10, 8:26-27; Ephesians 3:20-21; James 1:5; 1 John 5:14

  • WHAT WE BELIEVE

    There is One Triune God

There is only one true and living God who is the Creator of the universe. He exists eternally in three persons—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

    The Bible is God's Word

The Bible is God’s written revelation of Himself to mankind divinely given through human authors who were inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is entirely true, totally sufficient, and completely authoritative for matters of life and faith.

People are Created in the Image of God

Human beings are created by God in His image. They are the crowning work of His creation, worthy of love, dignity, and respect regardless of matters like age, race, gender, or class.

People are in Need of Redemption

Because of the fall of man, the image of God in people is distorted. All people have disobeyed God willfully through sin—inheriting both physical and spiritual death and the need for redemption. All human beings are born with a sin nature and into an environment inclined toward sin. Only by the grace of God through Jesus Christ can they experience salvation.

Jesus is both Lord and Christ

Jesus is both fully God and fully human. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a substitute for mankind, was raised from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will one day return.

Jesus is the Only Way of Salvation

Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and man. No other religion, belief, or person is able to reconcile God and man. He alone can provide forgiveness and eternal salvation.

    Salvation is by Faith Alone

Salvation comes only through a faith relationship with Jesus Christ, the Savior, as a person repents of sin and receives Christ’s forgiveness and eternal life. Salvation is instantaneous and is accomplished solely by the power of the Holy Spirit through the proclamation of the gospel. This salvation is completely of God by grace—not on the basis of human works, but on the basis of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. All the redeemed are secure in Christ forever.

    The Church is Christ's Body

The Holy Spirit immediately places all people who put their faith in Jesus Christ into one united spiritual body, the church, of which Christ is the head.

    Jesus Christ will Return

God will bring the world to its appropriate end in His own time and in His own way. At that time, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth. Christ will judge both the saved and unsaved. Those who have trusted Christ will receive a glorified body and dwell forever with the Lord. Those who have not trusted in Christ will spend eternity in hell, the place of everlasting punishment.

    Two Ordinances

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the two ordinances that we celebrate, being given as commands to His church for unity and edification of the body. We practice believer’s baptism by immersion to publicly proclaim our belief in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and demonstrate that we have received a new life in Him.

    The Mission of God

As followers of Jesus Christ, we believe it is our responsibility and privilege to carry out Jesus Christ’s command to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and teaching them all that He has commanded us so that the mission of God will be fulfilled and that we may be blessed by participating in that fulfillment when all tribes, tongues, and nations will worship Him around the throne.

Our Story

Mission was planted in 2020.

After serving overseas in mission work and church planting, God brought the Buss family back to Oklahoma to plant Mission. With the help of three other families, a small group began to meet together in homes during the pandemic. In September of 2020, we held our first in-person gathering. The Lord has been faithful to lead His church and use His people to share the hope of Christ and grow in discipleship. God has given Mission a heart for Norman—to make Jesus known throughout our entire community.
